Purple Creative Stage Sat 4:45pm
13Cities explore the 'edge of Country', playing an eclectic range of alt.Country and Americana including the songs of Cowboy Junkies, Richmond Fontaine, Conor Oberst, Nikki Lane, early REM, Drive-by Truckers and Tom Waits right through to Glen Campbell and Kenny Rogers. From indie-grit through to country-sweet, something for everyone.
Recognising a mutual love of the edgier end of the Country spectrum Phil Biggs (guitars and vocals) and Shaun O’Hagan (guitars and vocals) formed the band at the back end of 2010 along with David Mack on drums. The lineup is completed by Sean Allison on bass and the wonderful Sally Tindill with her powerful lead vocals, harmonies and performance energy.
13Cities have been playing regularly in pubs and clubs around North Yorkshire, County Durham, York, Teesside and Cleveland honing their sound, approach and reputation.
We’re often asked about the name 13Cities, well that was inspired by the album ‘Thirteen Cities’ by Portland alt.Country favourites Richmond Fontaine. We like to dig out great songs that aren’t often heard or played, so whilst you might not recognise every number, they’re all good!
